Sending an order to the kitchen

We’ve streamlined how you send orders to the kitchen in the Go Restaurant POS app. Here’s what changed:

Tapping Send is now optional.
If you don’t plan to use the Send button, you can disable it when setting up an order type.

How do I send an order to the kitchen?

There are two ways to send an order to the kitchen:

Manual method. Tap Send on the order screen to send items to the kitchen right away.
Automatic method. If you don’t tap Send, the app sends the order to the kitchen automatically after the POS receives full payment.

You can also choose to show or hide the Send button for each order type. The table below summarizes sending options when the Send button is enabled or disabled.

Send button enabled

Tap Send on the order screen if you want to send unsent items to the kitchen right away.

If you don’t tap Send, the order is sent automatically when the POS app receives full payment.

Send button disabled

The Send button will not show on the order screen. The order is only sent after the POS app receives full payment.

Summary: Tap Send to send items immediately. If you don’t, the app sends the order automatically once the customer has paid in full.

When to disable the Send button

You can show or hide the Send button for each order type, depending on your restaurant’s workflow. There are certain order types where enabling the Send button is especially useful. For example, consider phone-in orders: when a customer calls ahead to place an order and will pay upon pickup, you need to manually send the order for preparation so it’s ready when the customer arrives. If the Send button is disabled, the order won’t be sent to the kitchen for preparation until the customer pays in full, which could result in longer wait times for the customer.

By default, the Send button is enabled for each order type. You have the flexibility to disable it for some order types while keeping it enabled for others. This allows Moneris Go Restaurant to match your unique order flow and ensures orders are sent to the kitchen at the right time for your business.

If you want orders to be prepared before payment (for example, for takeout or phone-in orders), keep the Send button enabled for those order types.
If you only want paid orders sent to the kitchen, disable the Send button.

What if I don’t have a kitchen?

Sending orders to the kitchen applies only if your restaurant uses a kitchen workflow (so orders can be communicated to staff for preparation). If you don’t have a kitchen, you don’t need kitchen communication:

You don’t need to set up a kitchen station or kitchen printer. The Go Restaurant portal and Go Restaurant app work without this configuration.
You can disable the Send button for the relevant order types.

Without a kitchen station or kitchen printer (or the optional Kitchen Display System), you don’t need to think about how to send an order to the kitchen. You can still use the POS app to view the items in each customer order as you prepare them.

Sent vs unsent items

It’s important to understand the difference between sent and unsent items. This applies to all restaurants even if you don’t have a physical kitchen. A sent item has been committed for preparation—whether you prepare it at the counter or in a separate kitchen.

Can still be changed in the POS app

Once an item is sent it cannot be modified. For example, a salad with "House Dressing" modifier cannot be updated to the "Caesar Dressing" modifier. A burger combo cannot be updated from having a side of "Fries" to a side of "Onion rings" as part of the combo selection.

If you are using the Send button: To correct a sent item, remove the incorrect item from the order and add the correct item in its place. Refer to Using the Go Restaurant POS App > Place an order on the tablet. Scroll down to the section called Remove an item (or change its quantity) after sending it to the kitchen. You can also void an order if the customer has not paid yet.

If you are not using the Send button: Refund the incorrect item and place an order for the correct item.
